The thing is, if you do a general Google search on books about angels, you are going to find a plethora of books…and most of them are written by white women, with a tendency to fall into the conservative Christian interpretation of angels. And while there are some very good books within this category, there are also some amazing stories outside this white feathery room. Stories that would usually be glanced over because they are not the usual ‘book about angels’....

Reading Statistics in the U.S. In 2017, people in the U.S. 15 years and older spent an average of 16.8 minutes a day reading (not including for work or school), according to a survey by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. I’ve mentioned Sinéad Gleeson’s Constellations before on Book Riot- but it’s a recommendation that sits firmly on my ‘must reads’ so it’s worth a second mention. I’ve particularly enjoyed exploring YA books by Latinx authors on audio. There’s something so comforting about getting to hear bits of my first language woven in thought these stories, enhancing what for me is still the novelty of seeing my culture on the page. That experience hasn’t always been a smooth one, but I’m pretty jazzed to have found a narrator who hasn’t let me down. It’s also been an amazing tool to create new readers, introduce students to new books and connect them with other schools around the world. Here are five ways I use Skype to do this. Author Visits This one is a given. Not only are they often way less expensive than an in-person author visit, it creates much more flexibility with the visit.
